Adding water to a car battery can be just the solution you need if your battery is low and can’t start your vehicle. Adding water can also prevent corrosion on the terminals and lead cables of your battery, not to mention it will help keep the electrolyte levels up. You can add as much or as little as you want, but we recommend at least one gallon for every six months of usage.
So, can I add water to a car battery?
Yes, but it can be dangerous. Fill your car battery with only distilled water. If you use anything else, like tap water or well water, the battery will stop working and will not start up again. Add some distilled water to the battery so it is just below where you can see the inside of the hole on top of the battery. But don’t fill it all the way up to where there’s too much liquid in there!

How do you know when your car battery needs water?
A car battery has water. The light tells you how much water it has. If the light is green, then you have enough water. If it’s dark, then you need to put more water in so that the battery doesn’t die. You should use distilled water to fill up the battery with water.

How to Add Water to a Car Battery?

What happens if you put water on a battery?

Is distilled water the same as battery water?
Yes, distilled water and battery water are the same things. But battery water is not good for your PC because it can corrode metal. Distilled Water has no ions in it or it’s not really distilled. You can buy distilled water at any grocery store – just look for a bottle that says “distilled.” And don’t forget to recycle.

How much water should be in a car battery?

If you need to add water to a car battery, here is the best way. Make sure that your electrolyte level is above the top of each cell before adding any distilled water. The total amount of fluid should be about 1/2 inch over the plates at one time. Add distilled water slowly so as not to create an overflow condition where it could get into electrical devices or onto clothing and cause injury if contact occurs with skin or eyes. If the fluid level is below the lead plates after adding water, you should turn on your headlights for about 15 minutes. This will cause current to flow through the electrolyte and equalize fluid levels in all cells.
